The Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Scientific Community (WGL), known as the Leibniz Association, is the umbrella organisation for 86 research institutions which address scientific issues of importance to society as a whole. It stands out for its enormous diversity of themes addressed by the institutes. The Leibniz research institutes provide infrastructure for science and research and perform research-based services – liaison, consultation, transfer – for the public, policy-makers, academia and business. Research in Germany: LeibnizThe Leibniz Institute of Plant Biochemistry in Halle (IPB) which has an intense exchange with Brazil is one of the many cooperation examples from the Leibniz Association. At present, four Brazilian scientists are working at the IPB. The research group of Prof. Ludger Wessjohann has been working for years in the field of synthetic chemistry (catalysis) in joint projects with Brazil. The bilateral staff exchange gets a very strong financial support from the Brazilian side, too. Mr. Wessjohann is the co-organizer of a bi-yearly chemistry meeting in Brazil which is regularly attended by Nobel Laureates.[1]
