German Federation of Industrial Research Associations (AiF)

Arbeitsgemeinschaft industrieller Forschungseinrichtungen “Otto von Guericke” (AiF)

The AiF is the German Federation of Industrial Research Associations. The central concern of the AIF is to promote applied research and development (R & D) in favor of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The AIF has built a unique infrastructure for this purpose, consisting of an industry based innovation network including over 100 industrial research associations with approximately 50,000 enterprises (predominantly SMEs), some 700 research institutes as well as two AiF offices in Cologne and Berlin.

The research groups and the offices of the AIF in this network are providing practical advices on innovation in the field of R & D funding at a national level, and more and more at an international level, too. Since its founding in 1954, the AiF is, in the area of SME, a competent partner for the federal government, by acting through various incentive measures at the interface between business, research and government. Overall, the AiF has an annual budget of more than 300 million Euros of public funds.
